Peggy Pilkenton, Registered Nurse and Certified Dementia PractitionerPeggy Pilkenton is more than a speaker and educator on the topic of Dementia Care. She has devoted much of her nursing career to the field of Alzheimer's and Dementia Care having been both a professional as well as a family caregiver for those affected by memory loss and dementia.

As a Registered Nurse, her experience includes both traditional as well as holistic nursing practice in which, as a Licensed Massage Therapist for the past 16 years, she has incorporated the benefits of massage therapy into her elder care, hospice care and dementia care practice.

Peggy earned her Bachelors in Nursing degree in 1979 from Incarnate Word College School of Nursing and her Masters in Nursing in 1989 from the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Nursing both in San Antonio. While working on her Master's degree she focused on the special needs of those affected by Alzheimer's Disease and other related dementias. She offered education and support to individuals and groups in a variety of settings. In addition, she worked closely with family members to ensure their needs were addressed while serving in their loving and difficult roles as caregivers.

In 1985 she had the privilege of serving as Nurse Manager on a 60-bed long term care unit at the Kerrville Texas VA Hospital where she, along with an interdisciplinary team of health professionals, developed and opened a Dementia Unit designed to better serve the needs of those Veterans. She continues to provide Dementia Training to help meet the needs of veterans today.

In 2005 Peggy became a family caregiver for her mother who was diagnosed with dementia and she had the gift and honor of being with her Mom through 2007 when her Mom passed away.

As a Certified Dementia Practitioner with both professional and family care giving experience, Peggy now shares what she knows and what she has learned by teaching both families and professionals caring for someone with Dementia.

Compassionate, quality Dementia Care is something very near and dear to Peggy's heart and she strives to educate, motivate and inspire others to do all they can to provide exceptional care while nurturing the spirit of those who are affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
